Our Proposal

The committee is recommending that SOMA School District adopt the IB Middle Years and Diploma programs, thus creating a 6 through 12 continuum. MYP runs from grades 6-10 and the optional DP program covers grades 11 and 12.

A strong IB Middle Years Program beginning in grade 6 will set the foundation for a greater number of students to participate in more rigorous courses in high school. In addition, because the IB MYP is built on Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, it is an excellent opportunity to further disseminate the District’s educational approach.

Finally, we strongly recommend that all motivated students have access to advanced courses and higher achievement through an IB Diploma Program. Academic support systems should also be available for those students who are motivated and want to achieve.
